Treatment Spotlight: Oxygen

January 29, 2017

We all know that Oxygen is essential to life. It's also essential for great looking skin!

This non-invasive treatment rejuvenates dull, lifeless skin; heals acne and plumps the fine lines and wrinkles right out of your skin. What's even better is virtually anyone can receive this treatment - it's that gentle. Gentle plus effective? Sign me up.

How does it work?

Oxygen helps in the creation of energy, we require energy to think, breathe and prevent disease. Without oxygen our cells don't function properly and this includes our skin cells. After the age of 25 our measurable oxygen levels start dropping, so the more aged the skin, the lower the oxygen levels. This explains a great deal about Colorado's environmental impact on our skin, when the skin is deprived of oxygen, blood vessels constrict and the skin does not function properly.

An oxygen facial can include oxygen that is anywhere from 21% to 98% pure oxygen. There hasn't been any evidence suggesting higher percentages are more effective so this shouldn't be a deciding factor when choosing a spa that performs oxygen facials. Many times a light exfoliation of the skin is done prior to treatment to remove any debris. After exfoliation, an oxygen machine is used in combination with targeted products to push oxygen, vitamins and nutrients into the skin.

Who can benefit?

After an oxygen facial treatment, you can resume your normal activities, exercise and apply makeup without worry. This makes it a perfect option for special events, those with sensitive skin or anyone that doesn't want down-time. The infusion of oxygen and nutrients into the skin smooths, plumps and evens out skin tone without the side effects generally associated with microdermabrasion or peels.

Aside from the infusion of oxygen and vitamins, oxygen also encourages the growth of new skin cells, as well as collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are the building blocks that connect the skin cells together, similar to bridges connecting pieces of land. When our skin is trying to heal itself, collagen and elastin are produced, however our ability to produce these also decrease as we age. If our skin isn't producing enough that's when we see fine lines, wrinkles and scarring. So, not only is this a great solution for younger looking skin, it can also heal acne and acne scarring because the oxygen helps the skin in creating new cells at a faster rate.
